MUST TRY dessert in Jimmy’s Cafe – Langkawi

langkawi dessert

During my stay in Langkawi, I tried some of their culinary treats.

On my way back from the Cable car, I stopped by at some random food kiosk to try their ‘Fruit Rojak’ (fruit slices with sweet spicy peanut and shrimp paste sauce). Quiet tasty, but I prefer Javanese or Ambonese Rujak. I tried their delicacy food, ‘Laksa’ (spicy noodle soup) sold in some food trucks near the airport. It was not bad, but definitely not my fave. I tried some seafood at Cenang Beach and at another restaurant in Kuah town and not impressed by both. I tried some Indian food near my hotel and it was also unrecommended. The only restaurant with a memory to bring home for me is a famous place called “Jimmy’s the Padi Cuisine and Cafe”.

Pertama, gue nyobain Rujak Buah ala Melayu yang dijual di kios-kios didekat kawasan wisata Kereta Gantung. Rasanya? Gantung! Masih enakan rujak Indonesia kemana-mana. Rasanya? Biasa aja. Gue pun nyobain kuliner yang buka hanya malam hari di pusat kota Langkawi -Kuah Town-. Beberapa jenis makanan lokal gue pesen. Rasanya? Masih kalah telak ama makanan kita. Terus gimana dong? Karena pengen banget makan enak, gue cari tau restoran yang KATANYA paling enak se-Langkawi. Nama “Jimmy’s the Padi Cuisine and Cafe”-pun keluar. Ayo kita coba.

This place is huge in Trip Advisor. Everybody talks about it. Pros and cons. So I decided to find it out myself. The location is not hard to find. It’s at the opposite of Casa del Mar near Cenang Beach. Just look for a paddy field, if you find it, you’re there. The restaurant is next to a Paddy Museum and it has a patch of paddy field inside as a part of it. When we got there, it was rainy and really quite. We were the only guests. The restaurant had an “OPEN” sign, but no employees, no nothing. We tried to knock…”excuse me…” said it many times and still nobody came out. We decided to come in and sat there for quite a long time. weird experience. I even thought we could rob this place and nobody would know. Ha!

Kursi-kursi pun masih kebalik semua. Nah loh… “permissiii…excuse me….”… nggak ada jawaban.

Finally a young girl came out and asked us what do we want. We said we want to have lunch. She said “sorry we’re not opened yet”. I asked her what time do they normally open. She said 12 p.m. I looked at the clock, it was 12.30 already. I told her that and she looked confused. She went inside for like 5 minutes and returned saying “Okay then, we’re open..let me get the menu”. That was funny.

“Mau makan siang”, jawab gue sambil senyum. “Belum buka. Lima menit kemudian, dia keluar sambil bilang “oh ya udah deh, kita buka. Bentar ya saya ambil menu”. LAAAHHH!! Aneh banget ini restoran.

I chose my self a portion of ‘Fish Butter Masala’ for RM 33.50. I went for Indian food although the menu was wide and varied. The owner, Jimmy, is an Indian, so I thought Indian cuisine must be his specialty. I read in trip advisor that their best menu is ‘Beef Rendang’. But duh, I am an Indonesian. Why would I eat Indonesian food in Malaysia? Anyway my fish masala was delicious. The flavor was packed! Liked it a lot!

Nggak sudi. Pas makanan gue dateng, oh my, gue baru tau kenapa resto antik ini ngetop. Makanannya ENAK! Padet bumbu dan sedap.

Wanting to try something else, I ordered ‘Mango Kulfi’ (RM 12.50) as dessert. Oh, it was the BOMB! Probably the best Kulfi (Indian’s frozen dairy) I have ever tasted. Creamy, melts in your mouth, and just yummy! A must try!

heavenly delicious Mango Kulfi by Jimmy’s Cafe.

Another interesting experience was the visitors during our lunch. Around 4-5 birds flew to our table, chirping, and obviously asked for some treats. So I threw them some rice and they loved it. They walked around our table with their small feet and was not scared at all by humans. The lunch becoming more enjoyable with them around. Awesome!

Ah, sempurna makan siang gue.

Paying the bill at the end, we purposely paid with small bills and some coins. We needed to get rid of them from our wallets. When our slow serving waitress picked up the check, all the coins fell on the floor. HA! We heard the noise from the outside…they fell twice!!…..soorrryyyyyy!!!

Bunyi…..crrriiiinggggg!!! Aduh, takut dimarahin si mbak, kita kabur ke mobil sambil ketawa-ketawa. Maaaff mbak! Hahaha.

To pay a visit, I think it’s really important to check their operational hours before dropping by. Please do bring some more money because it’s quite expensive and do your best to stay away from the toilet. It was old, creepy and no soap to be found. Lastly, pray that Jimmy himself will serve you. I heard he is a very nice guy and he takes special requests from the guests. One more, order ‘Mango Kulfi’ for dessert. You wont regret it.
