Minggu ini pengen banget pengen baca buku baru. Lebih tepatnya baca buku rohani baru. Susah banget loh nyari buku rohani yang diinginkan disini. Ada sih (dulu) toko buku Visi di Bandung atau toko buku Immanuel di Jakarta. Tapi koleksinya kurang lengkap, jadi sering kecewa. Karena itu gue memutuskan untuk berangkat ke Singapore Sabtu kemaren untuk ngabisin waktu seharian di sebuah toko buku rohani favorit di Singapura<\/a> yang terlengkap yang pernah gue tau disana.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\/\/ September 14th\u00a0 <\/sup>2013, I had a nice geeky date with my boyfriend. We took the first flight to Singapore to spend most of the day in a bookstore, a Christian bookstore, to search, read and buy books. The name of the bookstore is \u201cSKS\u201d and yes, this place is worth all the travel. \/\/<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Nama toko bukunya ialah SKS, dan nama lengkapnya ialah \u201cSKS Books Warehouse\u201d. Jadi kalau diterjemahin bukan \u2018toko buku SKS\u2019 tapi \u2018gudang buku SKS\u2019. Lokasinya memang terletak di sebuah gedung yang terdiri dari banyak gudang-gudang produk. Bener-bener bukan kayak toko buku biasa yang ada di pusat perbelanjaan. Gue pertama kali kesini beberapa tahun yang lalu diajakin temen yang memang tinggal disana (makasih Dita!). Sejak itu, kepikiran mulu pengen balik. Dan sekarang sepertinya ialah waktu yang tepat, plus ditemenin pula sama pacar yang sama-sama mau beli buku. Hihiy.<\/span><\/p>\n

\/\/ A friend introduced me to SKS a few years ago and I was totally impressed. It\u2019s by far the most complete Christian bookstore I have even been to in my life. Name the book you know, and it\u2019s there. If you are a Christian and you love to read, this is then a heaven. The store itself is called a warehouse instead of a store, because it is located in a warehouse building. It\u2019s also a bit tricky to find but I will guide you step by step.\/\/<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Dari Changi Airport, kita langsung ke SKS dengan cara naik MRT yang jalur hijau, terus turun di MRT Tiong Bahru. Perjalanan dilanjutin dengan naik bus nomor 63 dan turun di perberhentian kedua, pas di jalan Outram. Dari situ jalan kaki kearah pom bensin Shell (keliatan jelas dari halte bus-nya). Gedung \u2018Tan Boon Liat\u2019 tempat SKS berada, terletak persis disebelah pom bensin. Begitu sampai, silahkan naik lift ke lantai 9. Kalau berangkatnya dari Orchard, naik bus nomor 123 di depan Lucky Plaza lalu berhenti di satu halte setelah Hotel Furama. Tinggal nyebrang jalan deh habis itu.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\/\/ From Changi Airport, take the green line MRT to Tiong Bahru MRT. From there, take the bus number 63 and get off at the second bus stop at Outram Road. After that just walk a little bit towards Shell gas station, and then the warehouse building is right next to it, called \u2018Tan Boon Liat Building\u2019. Take the elevator to the ninth floor, and you\u2019ll find SKS Books Warehouse. You can also get there by taking a bus number 123 from Orchard and get off at a bus stop after Furama Hotel. From there, find the Shell gas station and so on.\/\/<\/span><\/em><\/i><\/p>\n

Di SKS ada lebih dari 90 ribu judul buku rohani yang ditawarkan.<\/span> Gila ya. Dari masuk pintu depan udah langsung panik. Mau buku baru, buku lama, buku yang ngetop, buku yang nggak ngetop, buku tentang doa, tentang pelayanan, tentang hubungan, tentang perempuan, tentang laki-laki, tentang kesehatan dari sudut pandang Kristiani, buku anak-anak, Alkitab dalam berbagai versi dan bahasa, dan masih banyak lagi, ada semua. CD lagu rohani, poster motivasi dan lainnya juga ada. Asli rasanya pengen bisa beli semua terus bikin perpustakaan sendiri dirumah. HA! Tapi akhirnya, dengan jeli gue cari yang paling dibutuhkan dan paling kena pembahasan maupun bahasa penulisannnya.<\/span><\/p>\n

\/\/ There are literally around 90 thousand books at SKS. New books, old books, books written by famous authors, books written by people you never heard before, teaching books, relationships books, books about men, books about women, books about end times, books about prayers, books in Chinese language, Children books, Bibles in many versions and languages, ETC. I got really confused on which book to buy and I spent hours to choose.\/\/<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Harga per buku variatif, ada yang lagi diskon sampai sekitar Rp. 50.000-an, tapi rata-rata harganya sekitar Rp. 160.000-an. Berjam-jam gue milih, baca dan akhirnya beli 8 buah buku. Buku pertama yang jadi prioritas untuk gue baca ialah sebuah buku berjudul \u201cWhere is God when it hurts\u201d karangan Philip Yancey. Bahagia itu sederhana buat gue, yaitu bisa baca buku rohani baru.<\/span><\/p>\n

\/\/ I believe that Christian books are really important to read beside the Bible itself. Sometimes I need more knowledge on certain topics that can be found in books written by people who got revelations on that matter. In Jakarta I found it really hard to find the books that I want. Either it\u2019s been translated, or not available, or even if I bought it via online bookstores \u2013 sometimes things go wrong in the delivery process. That\u2019s why SKS comes in pretty handy. We ended up buying 8 books and one CD, and actually will come back for more books next time. My first book to read is a book called \u201cWhere is God when it hurts\u201d by Philip Yancey. Ah, I enjoyed my geeky bookstore date in Singapore. Oh btw, if you ever wonder what SKS stands for, I also have no idea \ud83d\ude00 \/\/<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
