Robin van Persie & my Muiderslot Castle Trip!

The Oranje a.k.a the Netherlands Football National Team came to Indonesia for a friendly match a few weeks ago. Of course I came to see them play. I am half Ambonese from my father’s side, and it’s a golden rule for every Ambonese to root for the Netherlands team (I don’t know why actually..hahaha!) Anyways, I got 2 VIP tickets to watch the friendly match.

Nggak tau kenapa nih orang Ambon pasti seneng banget belain Timnas Belanda. Sampe sekarang masih belum dapet jawabannya kenapa. :D.

A few hours later luckily I got to attend the Oranje Team’s after match private party. Yay! So excited! I met up with the whole team and got to chat with 2 of the best players there, Robin Van Persie from Manchester United and Arjen Robben from Bayern Munich. Woohhoo!!

Talking about football and the Netherlands, I remember a specific travel story of mine. So I have a friend, a Dutch man who was given an Indonesian nationality so he can play football for Indonesia National Team. During my visit to the Netherlands several months ago, his parents who stay in Holland became a very good host for me. They drove me places and my fave part was when they took me to visit a 14th century castle. A castle called Muiderslot in Muiden, a small town about an hour away from Utrecht City. It was my first experience being in a real castle!! (the Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland doesn’t count of course :p).

Seneng bener!

When we arrived, I was already amazed by the surroundings of the castle. So beautiful! The pier where the private boats were docked, plus the well kept garden right in front of the castle. We paid 12,5 Euro per person to get in and that’s included a free tour inside the castle. The tour was in Dutch (the guide provided a few laminated pages about the rooms that are visited during the tour for the English speaking tourists) and it lasted for an hour or so. It was a very informative tour, even though in my opinion the tour guide didn’t give us enough time to take photos.

Waktu baru sampe, dari jauh aja udah keliatan megahnya istana Muiderslot. Disekitarnya ada muara sungai tempat berlabuhnya kapal-kapal nelayan maupun kapal pesir kecil. Cantik deh. Menurut gue tur-nya cukup menarik, walau si pemandu kayaknya nggak gitu suka gue banyak motret. Tiap kali mau foto dia pasti buru-buru minta kita pindah ke ruangan lain. Dia nggak tau kali ya gue banci kamera!

inside the castle

Many rooms still have the old furniture in it, and they show us how things were done in that century. After the group tour, we wandered solo checking out the scary dungeon they have, the attic, and the room where we can try to put on some royal costumes. They also provide a special room where people can hang a piece of paper with their names written on it to leave a sweet trace of being there. I did that of course. I like this castle. I think it’s really really authentic. I also just found out that this castle is voted as the most beautiful and best-kept medieval castle of Holland. NICE!

We spent a couple of hours here and luckily got to see the stunning sunset view from the castle’s window. PRETTY. I think this place is highly recommended for everyone who visits Holland, especially people who have never been to a castle before.

Big thanks to the kind Om and Tante Bachdim!
